Creating a Lid Lifter
After the kettles boiled its time to put the food on. Great you’ve got your pot hanger, but how do you take off the lid of the Dutch oven? Its way too hot to lift up. These super simple pot lifters will save the day, and can often be made from off cuts of your pot hanger.
First Select your Wood

Your looking for a similar shape to the pot hanger, but much smaller.
You want a foot long straight stem with a substantial fork at the bottom of it. Cut the fork off so that it is about 1.5- 2 inches long. Remove any other side branches on the stem.
Second Shape the wood
If your side branch is very substantial thats good, but it might not fit under the shallow handle on your Dutch oven, if this is the case take a few gentle slivers off the back of it, until it fits under easily.
Two of these will allow you to lift and pour your kettle contact free and really help minimise the risk of burns on hot metal.
