Lords and Ladies

Arum maculatum

• A highly poisonous plant, all parts of this plant are poisonous.
• It has deep tubers (a little like a potato) and also spreads via seeds.
• Later in the spring it will have a white flowering spike wrapped in a protective ‘leaf’, that rises and drops each day, hence the name Lords and Ladies, as the leaf and flower ‘dance’ around each other.
• It can be overlooked in clump of Ransoms also know as Wild Garlic, as it often grows in the same areas. So it’s a very import plant to get to know.
• Other common names include: Snakeshead, Adder’s Root, Devils and Angels, Cows and Bulls.
