Alliara petiolata

  • Also known as Hedge Garlic, Garlic Mustard, Poor Mans Mustard, Penny Hedge plant.
  • This plant is a good alternative to wild garlic, if you live in an area where it is sparse, or have come to the end of its season.
  • Lighter in flavour it can be used in salads too.
  • The leaves can be found all year around, they contain an natural antifreeze, so can survive frosts too.
  • The first and second years leaves are different shapes. The photos show second year growth.
